Halloween is a lot of people’s favorite holiday, and what’s not to love? As children, Halloween means fun costumes and all the candy you can eat. As adults, Halloween is seen as an opportunity to really let go of inhibitions and indulge in your fantasies through creative party themes and costumes. Since the stage is already set by you and your partner donning costumes for the holiday, Halloween is also a great opportunity to try out a little post-party role playing in the bedroom. Superhero costumes are available in abundance and are usually modest enough for most parties. This is an especially good option for fans of cosplay.

50 Shades of Grey: Especially popular with the upcoming movie release, role playing with bondage adds another layer of fun and complexity. In most couples, one will tend to want to dominate and the other will prefer to be dominated, so give in to those pre-existing tendencies and go for it! Be open to switching roles to heighten the experience. Just be sure to clarify boundaries with your partner for this one.

Masquerade/Strangers: Masquerade is a common theme for Halloween parties, and perfect for a little role playing. It can be exhilarating to pretend that you and your partner are meeting for the first time at a party, and neither is aware of the other’s identity. If agreed on by both partners, a little anonymous flirting with other partygoers before “meeting” your partner can add to the excitement and recreate that ‘thrill of the chase’ feeling. Once home, either savor the identity reveal, or leave the masks on to further the effect. Keep in mind that this doesn’t have to be a masquerade party – you and your partner can arrive separately to a bar or large party in any costume you choose and still play at being strangers.
