Today LELO is known around the world as the company behind the world’s best pleasure objects, but it all started back in 2003 when industrial designer and co-founder Eric Kalén went looking for a fortieth birthday present for a woman who had everything.
“We decided to buy a sex toy and went to a sex shop in Sweden; we simply could not believe that there was neither a company or a product represented that had any sort of design aesthetic, or a sense of quality or functionality. After extensive research elsewhere – including what was available online – we realized there was a demand that was not being catered to.”
Founded by Kalén, fellow designer Carl Magnuson, and engineer Filip Sedic, LELO soon produced the iconic shapes of LILY
. At the heart of these redesigns – and goal of every subsequent LELO product – was a rejection of the cheap plastic buzzers and substitute phaluses that made up the market of traditional sex toys. Instead, LELO products followed contours inspired by the female form, and were manufactured with the highest quality materials and engineering.
